The Niagara Falls, ON head office is looking for a hardworking, detail-oriented and professional Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology team.

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

The Systems Administrator supports the Corporate IT infrastructure which covers multiple offices and job sites and includes servers, storage solutions, phone systems, networks, and security systems. This role, dependent on the assigned projects and tasks, may involve infrastructure design, software and/or hardware administration, project management, performance and tuning activities, security-related tasks, and other support activities. In addition to project related work, this position also serves as technical support for infrastructure related issues escalated from the Helpdesk.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND/OR SERVICES PROVIDED:

  • Design and support servers, storage solutions, network infrastructure, security systems, and backup and recovery plans.
  • Manage file systems and disk space and assist with backup and recovery services.
  • Manage Exchange E-mail servers ensuring backups, restores, and all preventative maintenance activities are performed and verified.
  • Support the company's data security strategies such as encryption, authentication, anti-virus, spam filtering and access control.
  • Ensure that the network infrastructure is up and running; ensure all internet access points are managed and proactively supported; manage firewalls and proactively support all incoming and outbound data communication.
  • Monitor system components to ensure the integrity and availability of all systems and key processes; review system and application logs; monitor scheduled tasks.
  • Monitor, respond, and remediate security vulnerabilities; carry out detailed threat analysis and research, and make recommendations for remediation and/or prevention; implement changes to improve security.
  • Perform patch management tasks including but not limited to maintaining current knowledge of available patches, deciding what patches are appropriate for systems, ensuring that patches are installed properly, testing systems after patch installation, and documenting all associated procedures.
  • Apply OS updates/upgrades on servers on a regular basis, update administrative tools and utilities as required, and configure/add new services as necessary.
  • Repair and recover from hardware and/or OS failures, coordinating with the IT Operations Manager and other team members.
  • Prepare contingency plans for recovering services and operations after outages and contribute to the planning and development of disaster recovery procedures.
  • Perform advanced analysis, problem solving and research to formulate technology solutions to complex business needs.
  • Develop strategies for implementing new services and upgrades on production systems; plan and coordinate technology changes for large and complex interconnected systems; document and distribute detailed change management plans.
  • Investigate, evaluate, compare, and demonstrate new technology which could enhance the Corporate IT Infrastructure; conduct pilot projects to assess new technology when appropriate.
  • Manage infrastructure capacity planning and performance monitoring and make recommendations as needed.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor projects and tasks to accomplish objectives in the most effective and efficient way, using appropriate methods, tools, and applications.
  • Perform routine audits of systems and software.
  • Perform account administration when required.
  • Write scripts to automate routine tasks and streamline processes.
  • Provide timely support for escalated Helpdesk tickets and support issues and act as a Technical Lead to the helpdesk/field technicians.
  • Troubleshoot system issues that may require an end-to-end evaluation of Corporate-wide systems often spanning multiple hosts and locations and involving external service providers.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure operational support documentation including network diagrams, configuration information of critical devices, process flow diagrams, storage layouts, procedures and best practices.
  • Communicate project, issue, and system status to users, management, and vendors as required.
  • Liaise with vendors and contracted service providers.
  • Participate in after-hours and/or weekend patching, maintenance, and problem resolution as required.
  • Occasional travel to branch offices and job sites may be required.

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • College diploma or University degree in computer science, network administration, or in a related field is required
  • Certifications and/or training provided by software and/or hardware vendors would be an asset
  • High level understanding of IT security principles is required
  • Knowledge of encryption, firewalls, SPAM appliances, and PROXY appliances
  • Knowledge of SAN (Storage Area Network) systems
  • Knowledge of HP networking equipment an asset
  • Knowledge of Avaya Phone and VOIP systems an asset

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum 6+ years of work experience in IT infrastructure is required
  • Experience designing, maintaining and troubleshooting hardware, software, and networks is required
  • Experience with server and network management tools and performance and tuning tools is required
  • Networking experience is required (routing, vlans, switching, firewall, wireless, etc); experience in a multi-location environment is preferred
  • Windows 2008/2012/2016 Server Security, backup solutions, disaster recovery
  • Install, configure, upgrade and patch Windows operating environments
  • Active Directory implementation, restructuring, and administration
  • Installation and management of Microsoft Exchange 2013+
  • VMware ESXi administration
  • Creating and maintaining firewall rules, routing, DNS, VLAN, QoS, WAN, LAN
  • Layer 2 & 3 Technologies; Routing technologies such as VLAN's and Spanning Tree protocol
  • Strong documentation and procedure writing skills with keen attention to detail
