The Port Robinson, ON office is looking for a hardworking, analytical, and detail oriented Weld Engineering - Junior to join the Engineering team.


SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

Provides in-house welding and manufacturing engineering expertise to the company with regards to the application and interpretation of codes, processes and practices affecting welding, fabrication and quality assurance activities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Role includes activities at an entry level position and the opportunity to work towards a fully compliant Weld Engineer after in-house and external training, including on-hands shop and field experience.
  • At an entry level capacity, develops welding, brazing, heat treatment, and manufacturing techniques, procedures, and selection of welding, brazing and heat treatment equipment in regard to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
  • Estimating weld and braze consumables and review of customer specifications with regards to welding, brazing, heat treatment and fabrication.
  • Conducts research and development to develop and test new fabrication processes and techniques, improve existing, or develop new welding, brazing and heat treatment equipment.
  • Develops new or modifies current welding, brazing and heat treatment methods, techniques and procedures.
  • Prepares technical reports as a result of research and development and preventative maintenance investigations.
  • Establishes welding, brazing and heat treatment procedures to guide production and welding and brazing personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre and post heating requirements.
  • Reviews and evaluates data to assist welding engineering personnel in the development and application of new or improved welding, brazing and heat treatment techniques, procedures and processes.
  • Evaluates new developments in welding, brazing and heat treatment field for possible application to current welding, brazing and heat treatment problems or production processes.
  • Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding, brazing and heat treatment procedures, restrictions and standards; in testing welds and brazed joints for conformance with code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.
  • Contacts personnel of other companies, engineering personnel or clients to exchange ideas, information or other technical advice concerning welding, brazing and heat treatment matters.
  • May perform experimental welding, brazing and heat treatment to evaluate new equipment, techniques and materials.
  • Directs the testing and evaluating of welding, brazing and heat treatment equipment.
  • Evaluates data and conducts experiments to develop application of new equipment or improved techniques, procedures or practices.
  • Recommends adoption of new developments and applications to engineering, Q.A. and welding and brazing personnel and demonstrates the practicality of recommendations.
  • Makes recommendations based on sound engineering principles, practices and judgment pertaining to specific engineering problems.
  • Supervises the Inspection of welded or brazed joints and testing to assure welds and brazed joints meet Q.A. standards, code requirements, and customer job specifications.
  • May conduct certification tests for qualification of personnel with respect to national code requirements.
  • May participate in customer meetings as Company technical resource.
  • Maintains awareness of engineering, fabrication and construction technological developments, and evolving field practices.
  • Ensures responsibilities and accountabilities are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with E.S. Fox Limited safety policy/procedures, ISO 18001 standards and OHSA requirements.
  • Ensures that environmental aspects within his/her sphere of responsibility are adhered to pursuant to ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Willing to continue a professional development through in-house and external training.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge and awareness of welding processes, procedures and practices affecting welding, brazing and heat treatment practices in a fabrication facility and in the construction field.
  • Maintains knowledge of technical code requirements, material specifications and scheduling
  • Monitors and ensures quality at all times.
  • Willing to work hands-on in a shop and field environment for the purposes of training and professional development.

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechatronics or related discipline
  • Engineering graduate from an accredited University

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Special interests in Material Science including Chemistry, Manufacturing and Robotics/Automation
