The Niagara Falls, ON head office is looking for an organized, professional and results-oriented Database Administrator to join our team. Please note that this is an office-based position.


SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

We are currently seeking a Database Administrator to join our Information Technology Department. The successful incumbent will be installing, patching, configuring and tuning Oracle and MS SQL Server databases, as well as providing day-to-day maintenance, troubleshooting and performance monitoring.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND/OR SERVICES PROVIDED:

  • Plan, install, upgrade, configure, and secure Oracle and SQL Server databases using best practices for database physical structure, functional capabilities, and security, and ensuring optimal performance.
  • Maintain a fully patched database environment by planning and scheduling patches periodically, evaluating patches, applying patches to a test environment, and patching production in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Performance tuning and monitoring; troubleshooting locks, waits, and poor SQL performance.
  • Responsible for database capacity planning, disaster recovery planning as well as supporting backup and recovery solutions.
  • Automate repeated tasks and activities by designing and implementing scripts, procedures, and packages.
  • Troubleshoot production problems, determining cause and problem resolution.
  • Participate in the evolution of critical systems as changes in business, process, and technology emerge.
  • Participate in project and team meetings, interacting and collaborating with team members.

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • University or College degree/diploma in Computer Science

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years' experience as an Oracle Database Administrator and Oracle PL/SQL, and preferably similar experience with MS SQL Server.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excels at automating tasks.
  • Knowledgeable about different aspects of security including authentication, authorization, encryption of data at rest and in-transit, monitoring, and blocking unauthorized access.
  • Demonstrates some leadership skills and independence.
  • Good understanding of emerging technologies.
